An odd combination of items that somehow ended up on the same page. Both were challenging projects drawn with the aid of tutorials and both reinforced logical elements of shading technique (e.g., when a fold of the ear or a section of the knots overlap another section, a shadow is cast on the portion that lies underneath. I wasn’t too sure how the ear would turn out since it looked a little clunky and sparse prior to the shading. However, this example taught me that intentional and moderate shading is what transforms a series of flat lines on a page to a 3-dimensional object with depth, contour, and shape.
